At EQ. reviews and investigations are carried out with the impartiality required to ensure fair and unbiased processes - without sacrificing empathy.
System and Program Reviews
It all started here. EQ was launched after Laurelle conducted the first phase of the Review into Systemic Racism and Oppression at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. Like the CMHR Review, system reviews examine the organizational organism as a whole and determine where racism and other forms of oppression may be manifesting and affecting worker wellbeing, organizational health and effectiveness, and organizational reputation. Read the CMHR Review's Phase One report, Rebuilding the Foundation, and the Phase Two report, Framework for the Future, here. We also conduct program reviews where program evaluation relating to equity in program design or execution.
Our team is designed to ensure that we have the expertise needed to conduct system and program reviews; each team is curated based on the skills required to construct a fair review process, from inception to conclusion.
Workplace Investigations
Workplace investigations relate to interpersonal conduct involving one or more persons. We have the knowledge and experience to conduct thorough workplace investigations and are skilled at engaging witnesses from many backgrounds.
Laurelle's legal skills, honed over more than 22 years as a practicing litigator, enable her to conduct impartial interviews, review and analyze information, assess credibility, and prepare written findings on a civil standard of proof for investigations of all complexities. Combined with her strong theoretic and practical expertise in intersectionality, anti-racism, and anti-oppression and the ways in which systemic and interpersonal oppressions manifest within workplaces, Laurelle possesses a unique skill set which is often ideal for complex investigations.
Leah's extensive experience conducting internal workplace investigations as an organizational leader and people and culture professional can also provide strong external support to organizations lacking capacity to investigate workplace harassment, sexual harassment, and other people and culture concerns internally, including complaints relating to human rights complaints.
For all reviews and investigations, we employ trauma-aware techniques in keeping with best practices.
Land Acknowledgement
Equitable Solutions Consulting operates in Treaty 1 territory on the ancestral lands of the Anishinaabe, Ininiwak, Anishininiwak, Dakota, and Dene peoples, and on the homeland of the Red River Métis. We recognize the continuing harms caused by settler colonialism to Indigenous peoples and the impacts to these lands by our extraction of resources for our consumption; we accept our responsibility to disrupt settler colonialism and anti-Indigenous racism through personal and collective accountability and action. We acknowledge our learning must never end; we strive to honour and manifest the teachings of original peoples of these lands.
Acknowlegment of African Ancestry
Equitable Solutions Consulting also acknowledges all Treaty peoples – including those who came here as settlers, as migrants either in this generation or in generations past, and those of us who came here involuntarily, particularly those brought to these lands as a result of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade and Slavery. We honour and recognize those ancestors of African origin and descent by learning the lessons offered to us and by teaching the untaught truths of our shared histories.
